Why I'm Running

We Oregonians have a long history of thinking for ourselves.

We were the first state to vote by mail, the first to protect our farmlands from sprawl, and the first to make all of our beaches public.

Oregonians passed the first bottle bill, the first marijuana decriminalization law and the first sanctuary state law.

Oregon works best when our leaders are willing to defy conventional wisdom and special interests to do what’s right for Oregonians. That kind of leadership is in short supply right now. 

That’s why I’m running. 

For twenty years, I’ve helped Oregon leaders communicate clearly about the complex challenges facing our communities. I’ve raised my children here and put them through our public schools. I'm an independent thinker, like many of us in rural Marion and Clackamas Counties. As your State Representative, I will look at the facts, listen to you and your neighbors, and then make up my own mind, and tell you where I stand — even when it's uncomfortable. I will always answer to the families of this district, not to partisan party bosses. 

Why I'm an Independent

Today, leadership in both major parties can seem more interested in protecting their own power, and in demanding group-think, than in delivering for working people. GOP legislators are afraid to challenge the MAGA Congress and Trump Administration as they gut rural healthcare. They sit by while illegal wars and destructive tariffs drive up prices for all of us on everything from gas to groceries to crop fertilizers. Then they walk off the job rather than do the hard work of negotiating solutions to the challenges Oregon faces. Oregon Democrats, on other hand, can seem to forget that those solutions are not always one-size-fits-all. What works for Portland might not work for rural Oregon. It's easy to feel unseen, unheard, and unrepresented.

Oregonians deserve better.

I will fight for affordable and accessible healthcare, thriving farms that can be passed from this generation to the next, schools that teach our kids to question and think for themselves, and an economy that rewards the people who actually do the work.

Most of all, I'm committed to listening — to Democrats, to Republicans, to the many of us who've stopped trusting either party to fight for us. We have more in common than the loudest voices want us to believe. No matter where we come from or how we vote, we want our families healthy, our farms thriving, and our communities strong enough to take care of their own.

That's the Oregon worth fighting for. Let's build it together.
